My work explores the concept of rest in today’s busy schedule. Tranquillity is a series of oil paintings depicting people asleep during the day. The people are sleeping in daylight, at a time usually associated with work. These sleepers embrace their need to rest without any guilt. I wanted my paintings to emphasize the importance of resting and allowing ourselves to take time out. The paintings evoke a sense of calmness and tranquillity with their large scale and soft colours. The sunlight creates beautiful shadows, highlighting the warmth and softness of the duvets. These paintings emit feelings of pure comfort and serenity, with the larger than life scale enveloping the viewer in a sense of tranquillity.
